a video installation, interactive experimental activity


A number of participants enter this space...
They are requested to wear one of six game rules cards on their neck...
They are told to follow the rule cards to start their own game...
No extra guide, only the rule cards with their own understanding...
Participants enter the blue, pink, and yellow areas in order...
In the area, all the materials can be used to finish their game...
An idea occured, when they use camera to shot a stuff...
An interesting thing occured, when they end their game...
the meaning of an object slightly changed several times in the whole process...



Basically, my project focus on "mistake" in the recoginition process also called "inferred meaning". How people speculate certain thing according to their own experience and understanding, when they only can see partial ture from it. an example, everything we saw online is arranged,  like the issue of “deepfake”. through the screen, we are difficult to know the truth. But in my project, I more prefer to explore the interesting part. Like how we give a stuff an inferred interesting meaning which is may far away from original stuff.  Through designing and setting up interactive activity, to explore those unexpected result from participants, and let them feel how meaning changed in the process of information transmission.


My work is inspired by speculatively thinking about the interaction between human and digital media. Through “Making” event, I am trying to let people engage and feel how the meaning of certain objects slightly changed in the process of information transmission. That means the information people received from screen is one-sided and isolated,which makes people infer the meaning of information easily based on self-reference. Therefore,the change of media probably has contributed to the inertria of people’s use of self-reference to infer, so that it has also led to the instability of the reference system.  However ,this cognitive deviation from the truth of a object is usually rapid and not easily detected. So this activity is designed to visualize this process, so that people can feel how much the new way of seeing leads to the deviation of our understanding of the world, and finally to discuss and think about whether we should be more cautious when using new media to understand our world.
